Practical yet beautiful, highly flexible yet built to last: Discover how timber-frame construction offers an ideal path to creating your own home, barn or hideaway! Join us May long weekend and arm yourself with everything you need to know to design and build your own timber frames!

  • Site selection and preparation
  • Design process and principles
  • Timber selection, milling and structural theory
  • Footings and foundation basics
  • Tools and scribing

  • Frame assembly

During the course, we will be building a small timber frame from the ground up, designed to illustrate all the essential joinery needed to design and build almost any timber-frame building.

Through daily classroom instruction and in-the-field, hands-on experience led by seasoned timber-frame builder, Deryk, you will leave this weekend intensive armed with everything you need to know to begin your own timber frame project.

Meals & Accommodation

Meals will be prepared during the course using local ingredients by our resident chef, Laire. Let us know in advance if you have any food sensitivities or dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate.

Tenting sites are available and small RVs/campers are welcome. These options are free of charge and generally quite comfortable.

For participants interested in a more luxurious stay, there is a small three-season cabin as well as a larger, four-season timber-frame cottage available for weekend rental. (We have blocked off the May long weekend on the Dragonfly Cottage Farm Stay page to prioritize workshop participants. Please contact us directly if you are interested in booking Dragonfly Cottage for this weekend.)

The workshop will be hosted on an active permacultural farm, which you will have the opportunity to explore during your stay. Visit our About page for more information on what our farm has to offer.
